About Us
The Beginning
In the early 1970's, Chainwheel Drive opened a small storefront at the corner of Gulf-to-Bay Blvd and Brookside Drive in Clearwater, Florida. Affectionately dubbed "Chainwheel" by local cycling enthusiasts, we began with a total of 12 bicycles and assorted accessories and parts in an 800 sq ft space.
Growth
In 1979, Chainwheel moved to larger quarters on Drew Street and later in 1997 down the street to the newly renovated Gulf Discount building at 1770 Drew Street that we now call home. A second Chainwheel store was opened in the Palm Harbor area in 1985 to serve the needs of the growing northern Pinellas County cycling community.
In 2004 our Palm Harbor store added additional space in its current location at US 19 & Tampa Road. In 2010 our Clearwater store built an addition onto the Mars Avenue side of the store in order to make expand room for more bike goodies and services. We also added new Florida friendly landscaping and won a beautification award from the City of Clearwater.
Support
From day one, Chainwheel Drive has supported the growth of cycling in the greater Tampa Bay area. Our aim, as always, is to give our customers the most enjoyable, safe, and healthy cycling experience possible. Always an advocate for bicycling, we support local bike clubs, state, and national cycling organizations and provide support for rides and races all over the region. We are involved with many different aspects of cycling, including racing, triathlon, mountain biking, cross country touring, e-bikes, and BMX.

Our Certified Fitting Technicians help assure properly fitted bikes for the casual as well as competitive cyclist.
